Our Role & Capabilities

As the national member organization representing the entire AHEC network, NAO is uniquely positioned to cultivate partnerships with federal agencies, academic systems, and national advocacy organizations on mutually beneficial projects.

NAO frequently subcontracts with strategically identified AHEC offices and regional centers to fulfill national program deliverables, ensuring local expertise is combined with national scale.

Workforce Development

Cultivate audiences and support content development for healthcare professional continuing education across the country.

Outreach & Promotion

Conduct virtual, hybrid, or in-person outreach through trusted regional networks to priority populations based on geography, demographics, and profession.

Technical Assistance

Provide targeted support, resource allocation, and program optimization services for national healthcare organizations and federal projects.

Data Collection

Facilitate quantitative and qualitative data collection across the network to advance understanding of evolving workforce trends, challenges, and outcomes.

Scaling What Works

Leverage the trusted, local AHEC network to adapt, replicate, and expand successful regional workforce models to other parts of the country.

Active Project Profiles

Workforce Pathways for Youth: P.A.V.E.

NAO secured a $2 million, three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand health career exploration, postsecondary training, and youth workforce development (ages 14-21). NAO partners with seven regional AHECs to deploy out-of-school programs using virtual reality technology.

Provider Pain Management Education

Partnering with eight AHECs, NAO supports Pri-Med's P.A.C.T (Practical Approaches to Comprehensive Treatment of Pain) virtual program. This self-paced CME/CE course offers 4 credit hours for physicians and clinicians treating patients with opioid analgesics.

GoDental Oral Health Recruitment

Collaborating with the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), NAO supports GoDental to inspire students to pursue oral health careers. ADEA distributes targeted educational resources and dental pathways toolkits across regional AHECs.

Lupus Signs & Symptoms Awareness

NAO has partnered with the Lupus Foundation of America to increase early detection and diagnosis of lupus. Because lupus mimics other conditions, this partnership focuses on educating practitioners and spreading early diagnosis resources.
