Help Secure AHEC's Future.
Federal funding and policy support are critical to maintaining the network of 300+ centers training America's future healthcare workers.
The Problem: National Healthcare Needs Are Growing
America faces a growing shortage of primary care providers and health professionals — especially in rural, frontier, and disadvantaged urban regions.
A Proven Solution: 50+ Years of Impact
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program is a community-based solution that has addressed workforce shortages since 1971 through recruitment, interprofessional training, and continuing education.
The Urgency
AHEC relies on federal appropriations under Title VII of the Public Health Service Act. Funding is constantly under review, and program structures must be defended during federal departmental reorganizations to prevent disruptions to rural training lines.
"Service is at the heart of AHEC... When communities' healthcare needs are met, our society is stronger and more resilient."
Dr. Wanda Thomas
President, National AHEC Organization
Program Director, LSU Health Shreveport
